Today is D-Day

For 11 Years, 5 months, 14 days I have worked at the Matrix Court building in Swansea.  And today, is my last day.

To start it off, I walked in to find my desk sabotaged by Gareth B (Thanks ;) )

Sabotage I tell you

For lunch, Donna and the guys all chipped in to purchase pizza, which was scoffed in a short amount of time, by the local savages!!

All in all, so far, it has been a good day :)

Its been an interesting journey, filled with up’s and down’s but now I feel that it is the right time to move on.  As I write this, I’m not nervous about leaving, I do regret that I wont see my colleagues very often and I will miss them all deeply.

Now, my laptop has been wiped, all non required paperwork has been shredded and all my personal belongings are in the car.

So namasté IBM & Virgin Media and Hello Swansea Council :)

The stool just got real :)

Well it has finally happened.  After 111/2 years, I am finally moving on from IBM.

er… Here’s a horrible thought, thats over 1/3rd of my life………….. :’(

Anyway, moving on…

There have been plenty of up’s and down’s over that period of time.  Personal and romantic relationships have come and gone, friends have been married and have had children and sadly, there have been people’s passing.

Its been an interesting journey and one that will no doubt stick with me for a very long time.  For those who don’t know, I joined ntl: in March 2000, joined Swansea’s mini intranet team in 2001 and then progressed from there.

It’s been fascinating having watched my work place evolve and stay the same all at once.

Confused? Don’t worry, I shall explain.

The Swansea contact centre has changed hands 3 times.  In the following order:

  1. Cable and Wireless
  2. ntl
  3. Virgin Media (Managed by IBM & Manpower)

During each company merger, the iDev department has remained the same, our employers have changed, but we still provide the same function, we still work with the same people.  So for us, nothing has changed.

So a big shout out to my brothers and sister in arms from over the past 11 years

These are but a few of the people I have had the pleasure to work with. If I have left anyone off, my apologies.

It’s been one hell of a ride :)

So what’s in store for me now?  Well.. from September 5th I am joining Swansea’s education department as a Web Applications Officer.  This role will be a big step for me, leaving my comfort zone and entering an environment where my learning curve will sky rocket.

Something tells me, I am about to start living in interesting times ;)

I can’t wait.

Theatre Ticket Design

I am in the process of designing a website for a local theatre company.

The theatre ticket image is going to be used to link the customer to site so they can order their tickets.

I thought I would post the design’s progression, from beginning to end.

Ticket design 1

Ticket design 1

Ticket design 2

Ticket design 2 - Added noise to the texture of the ticket

Ticket design 3

Ticket design 3 - Added a different texture to the ticket and added a tear

The following image is the end result and will be used within the design.

Ticket design 4

Ticket design 4 - Added a different texture to the ticket and reduced the size of the tear.

I must admit that I am particularly happy that the ticket received so many likes on forrst.com (12 In total) :D

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Long time no posting…. My bad, sorry :)

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I decided to post a design relating to package selection on forrst.com and the feedback I have received has been invaluable and evolved the design considerably.

I just wanted to give a big thanks to the guys and girls that have given me feedback.
